Covid Notices Saved

December 1, 2020 - Klitsa Tutoring is closed until January 4, 2021
Dear Parents, Learners, and Community Partners,
Please see the statement below, released by the Literacy Alberni Board of Directors on November 30, 2020.
To The Alberni Community,
As a response to our community's growing list of COVID-19 exposures, we will be closing our office to the public for the 14 work-days prior to our regularly scheduled Winter Break (Starting December 19th, 2020, and ending January 3rd, 2021.) Please know that there are NO known exposures linked to our facility, staff, or clients at this time - we are just doing all we can to ensure everyone in our community is as safe as possible this Holiday season.
During the period of December 1-18th, we will be available by phone and email from 10:00am to 4:00pm. However, we will not be able to facilitate any intakes, in-person sessions, nor have any visitors to our offices. As an essential service provider for Immigration Refugee, and Citizenship Canada, we will be available to meet clients for emergency/urgent situations, but these meetings will take place off-site and be arranged by a staff with clients directly, upon request.
During the Winter Closure period of December 19th - January 3rd, staff will periodically be checking emails and our office phone line voicemails, and available to meet with clients for emergency/urgent needs upon request, within our abilities.
Our office is set to reopen to limited, scheduled visitors on January 4th, 2021, pending review of the Covid-19 numbers in the community.
We wish you all a safe Winter Break, and look forward to working with you to achieve your learning goals again in 2021.
Stay safe, wear a mask.
The Board of Directors,
Literacy Alberni Society

Saturday August 29, 2020 - Update from Lesley

Dear Parents, Learners, and Community Partners,
Because of the high volume of emails I am receiving, some of you will not receive a timely response to your tutoring requests sent by email. Whether you are a new or returning client, I recommend that you:
1. Phone into the office on the Klitsa Tutoring line - 778-421-0031
2. Speak patiently with the office staff member who answers your call (Lesley, Daniel, Charlotte, Melinda, or Graham).
3. Patiently provide them with full details when they ask you the questions for which information is required before your intake meeting.
4. Consider booking your intake meeting at the time of this phone call so that you are in queue to be put onto the tutoring schedule.

Please know that all clients, new or returning, will have to review our Covid 19 Policies and the Protocol for tutoring on our premises. All clients registered with Klitsa Tutoring prior to July 29, 2020 will have to attend a brief intake meeting to update their file.

Please be considerate when encountering our office-entry protocols and direction from our staff.

Please check our updated hours of operation and office-entry protocol.

Thank you

Wednesday July 29 - Update from Lesley
Dear Parents, Clients, and Students,

We are slowly reopening, but will have limited ability to tutor until our teaching staff returns.
We have a Covid 19 Safety Protocol in place, and all parents, students, teachers, and staff will have to review these new policies prior to receiving any tutoring or returning to work on our premises.
All entry into our offices is by appointment or for scheduled tutoring. Please call or email if you wish to book a meeting time. Please come prepared with a mask to wear.
We have a school year plan in place for scheduling, of which parents and students will be advised when they come in for a Covid 19 policy review.
We will be unable to schedule for the school year until we confirm District 70's 2020-21 school year plan and learn how it will mesh with our scheduling plan. When I know more about this I will post our scheduling guidelines on this website, along with new policies for you to familiarize yourself with prior to requesting a meeting.
I wish I could say that we will be tutoring as usual, but I cannot.
I already know that we will not be able to accommodate all tutoring requests due to our site capacity and the demands placed on our tutoring staff. There will simply not be enough hours in the day, nor teachers available to meet everyone's needs. While I know that I have not always been able to accommodate every tutoring request, I will now have to actively turn students away, for which I apologize in advance.
Please don't allow the impending politics of this situation to force your frustrations out on others, or to cloud your compassion for the safety of everyone involved, children, adults, and elders alike.

And finally I hope that we can all access our reserves of patience and kindness to express to each other how much we appreciate how hard everyone is working. Patience and kindness will help others to cope, to support, and to do the best for district learners, which is what we all really want.

May 25 - Partial Reopening
Klitsa tutoring will partially re-open on Monday May 25.
We will provide supervised study time for students grades 7 through 12. Students are able access to study areas, textbooks and learning aids, wi-fi for their laptops, or our computers for schoolwork.
There are 20 study spaces available, and each will be assigned to one student only, in order to prevent the possibility of cross-contamination by people using the same space.
Study time is available Monday to Thursday, from 12:30pm to 3:00pm. Students must arrive between 12:30 and 1:00 and will be assigned a study space based on their study needs. Please be advised that during busy times, your student may be asked to wear a mask for their safety, and one will be provided if they do not currently have their own.
Supervisors are able to provide guidance, support, and feedback on assignments, as well as proofread and offer clarification and instruction when requested. A math teacher will be available only on specific study days, and math students in grades 9 to 11 should plan their study for those days.
We are not staffed to accept drop-in visits, so please call Lesley at 778-421-0031 to discuss your student’s need for support and use of our space.

April 24 - Update from Lesley
Within the next week, I will start contacting those clients with students grades 6 through 12 in order to set up online tutoring support using the Zoom platform. Fees for this service will be lower, but there will most likely be restrictions to the numbers we are able to accommodate. Payment protocols will also be changed. The dynamics of online tutoring will be discussed with all who choose to access this option.
We are working in conjunction with a couple of teachers from ADSS in order to secure use of technology for students who do not have regular access to reliable computers or internet connection. We hope to be able to start distributing technology to students by May 1.
Also by May 1, we are hoping to open our classroom space up to those older students who need access to computers and an internet connection to complete their coursework. Those students will have to be willing and able to comply with our very strict sanitizing and physical distancing rules in order to be here.
Finally, I have to be honest in stating that we currently do not have a viable plan for face-to-face tutoring that allows for all participants to feel safe. I will continue to discuss the options with tutors and clients until we can develop a plan that has considered all the variables, and will be acceptable for all.
I would like to thank everyone for their continued patience through this process and over the past few weeks. Everything seems slower to happen these days, but perhaps that is a very good thing for us all.
Be safe, be well - Lesley

April 20, 2020
A message from Klitsa Tutoring Program Coordinator Lesley Wright:
As of today, I have received very little consistent information about how schooling and course study is moving forward for students within the district, especially those studying subjects at a grade level that will ultimately have an effect on their transcripts. To that end, there are several tutors willing to work remotely through online tutoring, and others who are willing to work in a health-conscious and physically distant fashion in our office should that be the more viable option. If your grade 6 to 12 student needs subject support, our goal is to implement a method that will work for the individual student and tutor needs. Please be in touch via email if you need to set up tutoring (lesley@klitsatutoring.ca)
In other news, there are a couple of projects that are on the go through the Literacy Alberni office:
  • We are exploring a possible collaboration between our office and the school district in order to distribute their laptops to those who need technology at home to complete their school work.
  • We are facilitating the The Pandemic Postcard Project in order to create an historical archive of experiences within the community during the Covid 19 Pandemic. You can contribute through the Literacy Alberni website,  Facebook, by email, or snail-mail. Look for information in this week's Alberni Valley News.
  • We are now accepting payments via e-transfer for those of you who are concerned about your outstanding balance. Send payments to payments@klitsatutoring.ca using the security answer tutoringfees
While we remain closed to unannounced drop-in visits, scheduled appointments can be arranged via email.
March 20, 2020 - Klitsa Tutoring is closed until Covid 19 restrictions are lifted.

The date of our reopening cannot be determined at this time. We will be closed until at least April 14, 2020, but will not announce our intention to resume services until after the necessary social restrictions that are protecting the health of our community members are lifted. For the time being, all schedules have been removed from the system.
March 18, 2020 - Klitsa Tutoring is closed to social visits and educational services as of today.
We are closing in order to plan our best steps for helping those who will need our services as life routines begin to normalize.
As of right now, our post-break tutoring schedule remains in place as it was originally established, but will be adjusted day by day as circumstances change. Expectations to attend sessions have been removed, as well as any late-cancellation fees for last minute changes of heart.  If you happen to be in touch with any other parents/clients, please let them know this.
Watch this space and our Facebook Page for updates as we move beyond today.
I can be reached at the office by phone between 10:00am and 4:00pm Monday to Thursday, and by email any time.
Once we have a plan in place, I will release a statement of intent regarding our services, and an email will be sent to all parents.
In the meantime, I am hoping that the sun holds out for all to enjoy. Be well
